Ginninderra Athletics report from ACT U20 and Open Championships

There were awesome performances by our Ginninderra Athletes in the ACT U20 Championships, held from the 25-27 January with many PBs and ACT medals. Our athletes competed against some of the best athletes in Australia and international athletes. They were definitely not overawed on a big stage.

Congratulations to Elsie Hamilton for her excellent second overall in the under 20 1500m, ACT Gold. She is an U14 athlete and was 0.1 seconds behind the overall winner.

She was also 4th and first ACT in the U20 800m.

Ryan Knight, 6th overall, won the ACT gold medal in the U20 100m. Tobi Drummond Templeton was fastest qualifier but unfortunately broke the start in the final. These were outstanding results by Ryan and Tobi. There were 34 athletes in total in the heats.

Aisha Shave ran an excellent 4th overall in the U20 100m final. She was one of the youngest of the 22 athletes who contested the heats.

Aisha Shave won ACT Gold in the open 100m hurdles in a time that would have won the U20 by over 1 second, she is U16.

Hana Jugovic won ACT Gold in the U20 10000m race walk, 16th overall (3rd U20) in a very classy field which included Olympic Bronze Medallist, Jemima Montag.

Owen Toyne (12th overall, 5th U20) won ACT Gold and Kodi Clarkson (14th overall, 7th U20) won ACT Silver in the under 20 10000m race walk in a star studded field which included multiple Olympic Athletes, Commonwealth Games Medallists and National and Oceania record holders.

In the U20 200m, Tobi Drummond Templeton was second fastest qualifier in the 200m. He finished an awesome 4thoverall and ACT Gold Medal in the final. Ryan Knight was 11th fastest overall in a very strong field.

Ginninderra’s very own Cameron Crombie won the Open Men’s Para Shot Put with a throw of 14.98m, just short of his personal best and world para shot put record of 15.95m.

Congratulations to our awesome athletes!
