Working behind the scenes
Behind every smooth-running Saturday morning and successful season is a whole lot of behind-the-scenes work — and that’s where our Working Bees and Club Projects come in. From maintaining equipment and setting up the oval to fixing storage, painting signs, or upgrading club assets, there’s always a task (or ten!) that needs a helping hand. We rely on both ad hoc support and the generosity of members with specialist skills — whether you’re handy with tools, great with a mower, or just happy to lend a hand for an hour or two. Every contribution makes a big difference to keeping Ginninderra Athletics running strong.
Where we need your help
There’s a wide variety of small but important jobs that help keep the club ticking — and the good news is, many of them can be done at your own pace, on your own schedule. Whether it’s repairing or cleaning equipment, helping with signage or line marking, organising the shed, doing a bit of gardening, or even assisting with admin or design work from home, there’s something to suit everyone.
You can take on a one-off task or choose a series of similar jobs — whatever fits your time and skills. We’ll give you everything you need to get started, and you can take ownership from there. No rosters, no overcommitment — just real help, done your way, that makes a real difference.

General tidy up around the sheds
General tidy-ups around the shed go a long way — things like whipper snipping, a quick bug spray, checking for OH&S hazards, or giving the fridge and storage areas a once-over all help keep our space safe, functional, and ready for action. These are easy jobs you can do in an afternoon and make a big impact behind the scenes.

Keeping the unwanted out
Keeping the Unwanted Out is all about protecting our club’s assets and ensuring our facilities remain safe and secure. Tasks in this area include repairing and reinforcing security barriers, testing our alarm systems, and helping us stay one step ahead of unwanted visitors. If you’re handy with locks, gates, or systems — or just keen to lend a hand — your support helps safeguard everything we work hard to build.

For the super organised
For the Super Organised, this one’s for you! Keeping our equipment areas sorted, labelled, and safely accessiblemakes a huge difference on a busy Saturday morning. Whether it’s rearranging shelves, grouping similar items, or creating clear systems so we can see what’s needed at a glance, your knack for order helps the whole club run smoother — and faster. If you love a good tidy-up and a label maker, we’ve got a job with your name on it!

Throws stocktake
Throws Stocktake is all about making sure our shot puts, discus, javelins, hammers, and all related accessories are accounted for, in good condition, and ready to go. This includes checking sizes, weights, labels, and storage — and flagging anything that needs repair or replacement. It’s a great task for someone who’s detail-oriented and wants to help ensure our throwers have the gear they need, when they need it.

Painting
Painting Shot Puts the Right Colour is a simple but important job that helps athletes and volunteers easily identify the correct weights by age group. Over time, paint fades or chips, so giving our shot puts a fresh coat in the correct colours ensures smooth event setup and safer competition. We’ll provide the colour guide and materials — you just bring the steady hand!

Speaker maintenance
Speaker Maintenance ensures our announcements come through loud and clear — because when the committee speaks, we’d like everyone to hear! This task includes testing and charging the portable PA system, checking microphone connections, and ensuring the gear is safely stored and ready for each meet. If you’re tech-savvy (or just handy with a cable), this is a great way to keep the club running smoothly from the first welcome to the final results.

Painting the containers
Painting the Containers helps us keep the club looking clean, welcoming, and well cared for. Whether it’s covering up existing graffiti or applying a fresh coat to prevent future tagging, this task is all about pride in our space. We’ll supply the paint and tools — you supply the elbow grease! It’s a great one-off job that makes a big visual difference to our club environment.

Trolley TLC
Our trusty equipment trolleys work hard every week — and every now and then, they need a little TLC. Whether it’s tightening bolts, fixing wobbly wheels, oiling moving parts, or giving them a general clean-up, this task helps keep our gear rolling safely and smoothly from shed to field. If you’re handy with a spanner or just enjoy bringing things back to life, this is a satisfying way to support the club behind the scenes.

Battery changes
Our Timing Solutions gates are essential for accurate results on meet days — but they can’t run without fresh batteries! This task involves checking, charging, and replacing batteries in the gates and sensors as needed, ideally ahead of each Saturday meet. It’s a small job that has a big impact on keeping events running smoothly and efficiently. If you’re reliable and like tech with a purpose, this is a perfect behind-the-scenes role.

Ordering new equipment
Ordering New Equipment is perfect for anyone with a knack for online shopping and a good eye for detail. Whether it’s replacing worn-out gear, restocking essentials, or sourcing something new, this task helps keep our club well-equipped and ready for action. We’ll give you a list or budget — you help us find the best options. Shopping aficionados welcome— especially if you love ticking items off a wish list that supports our athletes!

Jumps stocktake
Jumps Stocktake focuses on everything we use for long jump, triple jump, high jump, and vertical challenges — from mats and uprights to tape measures, crossbars, marker cones, and rakes. This task involves checking that all equipment is in good working order, properly stored, and easy to access on meet days. It’s a great way to support our jumpers and help ensure every event runs smoothly and safely. If you’re methodical and like ticking things off a list, this one’s for you!

Resurfacing the jump pits
Are you good with project management or just love getting things organised and done? We’re looking for someone to help coordinate the resurfacing of our jump pits — from sourcing quotes and materials to locking in timelines and liaising with contractors. It’s a one-off project that makes a lasting difference to our athletes’ experience, and we’d love someone to take the lead. If you’re organised, proactive, and like seeing projects through from start to finish, this one’s for you!

Handy with a screwdriver
If you’re handy with a screwdriver, we’ve got the perfect task for you — tightening and checking our hurdles. With regular use, screws and bolts can loosen over time, so giving the hurdles a quick once-over helps keep them safe, stable, and competition-ready. It’s a simple job you can do at your own pace, and it makes a big difference to both safety and setup on meet days. Grab a screwdriver and help keep our hurdlers running smooth!

Tech savvy
If you’re tech savvy and enjoy working behind the scenes, we could use your skills to help keep our club laptops running smoothly. This task involves configuring devices for the timing system, ensuring software is up to date and secure, and making sure everything is ready to go for each meet. It’s a great way to support the club’s tech backbone and ensure our events run without a hitch. Perfect for someone who’s comfortable with devices, systems, and a few handy shortcuts!

Got Skills We Haven’t Listed?
If you’ve got a talent or trade that isn’t mentioned here, we’d still love to hear from you! Whether it’s something hands-on, creative, or behind-the-scenes, there’s always room for fresh ideas and extra support. Many hands really do make light work — and your contribution, big or small, can help make our club even better.
