Ginninderra Athletics is proud to shine the spotlight this month on one of our dedicated and much-loved Tigers – Cody Blackman-Allen.
Cody has been a valued member of Ginninderra since at least 2018 and has grown steadily through the ranks of school and club athletics. His journey is a testament to persistence, passion, and the support of the Tigers family.
A Breakthrough Year
In 2023, Cody reached a major milestone by making his first Schools Regionals competition, before stepping up later in the year to contest the ACT 13 Years and Over Championships for the very first time. His performances quickly marked him as a rising throws talent to watch.
That same year, Cody made his national debut at the Chemist Warehouse Australian All Schools Athletics Championships. Competing in the Boys U16 Discus (1kg), he placed 12th in the final – a strong result against the best in the country.
From Territory Podiums to the National Stage
Cody’s 2023 ACT Championships were a breakthrough. He secured:
- 3rd in the Boys 15 Discus (1kg)
- 5th in the Boys 15 Javelin (700g)
These achievements were the stepping stones that propelled him onto the national stage, showing that hard work at the club and territory level can open the door to bigger opportunities.
2024 – A Year of Growth and Titles
In 2024, Cody continued his upward trajectory at the ACT 13 & Over Track & Field Championships, claiming:
- 1st in the Boys 16 Discus (1.5kg)
- 1st in the Boys 16 Javelin (700g)
- 5th in the Boys 16 Shot Put (5kg)
This double-gold performance underlined his versatility across the throws and his commitment to constant improvement.
Later in the year, Cody represented Ginninderra and the ACT once again at the Chemist Warehouse Australian All Schools Athletics Championships in Brisbane. He lined up in three U17 events – Discus, Shot Put, and Javelin – placing 8th, 8th, and 10th respectively. Competing against Australia’s best, Cody showed the determination and resilience that has become his trademark.
A Tiger at Heart
Beyond the competition results, Cody is known for his positive attitude and his role as a supportive teammate. He’s a much-liked member of the Tigers, someone who embodies the Ginninderra Athletics spirit of effort, encouragement, and community.
As Cody continues to refine his technique and chase bigger distances, his journey from local meets at Charnwood Oval to national championships serves as an inspiration to younger Tigers dreaming of following in his footsteps.
