Ginninderra Athletics Weekly Update 05-02-2026

Ginninderra Athletics

Dear Ginninderra Athletics Community,

📣 President Announcement

After much consideration, I have made the decision, due to many other competing commitments, to stand down as club President at the end of the season. Among other things, my mother is in a nursing home and is slowly declining and I really need to spend more time supporting her needs. I am very keen to remain on the committee to support the transition, mentor the new President and new committee members, and take on some duties but really need to pull back.

As far as I am aware, no current committee members are planning to stand for the role. Paul is keen to continue as Vice President and support the transition. Furthermore, the remaining executive committee members are keen to continue in their roles if re-elected, leaving the club in a really good place. However, we need a new President after this season.

Very importantly, we must increase the number of volunteers, not just committee members, who regularly contribute to our club through small but significant roles. There are many jobs that I have taken on with a shrinking committee, and this is not sustainable. It is important that the President role is not overwhelming. It doesn’t need to be.

We will put out role descriptions in the next week for people to consider taking on a role for next season.

If you are interested on taking on the President role, please let me know. We really need to fill the role, preferably at the AGM in late March. I am very happy to discuss, and I am very committed to supporting my successor to lead the club to thrive in the future. Next season is the 50th anniversary of our club.

Call for volunteers from CA

The Underage Championships are fast approaching, and Capital Athletics is seeking parent volunteers to support our hardworking officials across track and field events.

Without the assistance of parent helpers, unfortunately, our events cannot go ahead. Your support plays a vital role in ensuring the championships run smoothly and successfully for all athletes.

Please find the link below to register as a volunteer. Even if you are only able to help at one event, every contribution is greatly appreciated. Our officials work tirelessly to deliver a positive experience, and your help makes a real difference.

Capital Athletics: Underage Championships

Thank you in advance for your support, and we look forward to a great championship.

U6 to U8 Teams challenge

Sunday 1st March from 8-10am at Calwell Playing Fields.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our younger athletes. It would be great to get lots of our young tigers to participate.

All the info you need is here. https://www.capitalathletics.au/events/335294

⚠️ Parent Supervision Reminder

Little Athletics Australia requires that all athletes in the Under 17 age group and below have a designated adult carer present at the track at all times during club meets. This ensures the safety and wellbeing of all young participants throughout the event.

We look forward to seeing you either at Charnwood or other events soon.

Cheers, Gary (GAC President)
